Michael MA, violin professor & Head of Strings/HKAPA 馬忠為, 演藝學院弦樂系系主任

Born in Vienna, Michael Ma was first taught by his father before being accepted at age 14 to the Curtis Institute and the New School of Music, Philadelphia, to study violin under Ivan Galamian and Adolph Brodsky. Upon graduating, he began performing as the Soloist of Philadelphia and founded the New Art String Quartet which toured throughout the globe. He has appeared frequently as soloist, and held the position of concertmasters with many orchestras including the Oklahoma Symphony Orchestra, the Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra, the Santa Fe Opera Orchestra, San Diego and the New Mexico Symphony Orchestra. Prior to his appointment as Head of Strings at the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts in 1996, he was Professor of Violin at the University of Oklahoma. 

馬忠為生於維也納,初隨父親學習小提琴,十四歲進入寇蒂斯音樂學院及費城新音樂學院,師隨Ivan Galamian 和Adolph Brodsky。 馬氏剛畢業便加入費城協奏曲獨奏團,並成立新藝弦樂四重奏巡迴演出。 他替多個樂團擔任團長;當中包括俄克拉可馬洲交響樂團、香港管弦樂團,Santa Fe Opera Orchestra, 聖地牙哥和新墨西哥交響樂團。之後任俄克拉可馬大學小提琴教授。 一九九六年出任演藝學院弦樂系系主任一職。
